Since 1956, the Chiarlo family winery has made superior Barberas and high quality Barolos that are consistently among the most renowned expressions of these wines today. Michele Chiarlo sources grapes from strictly selected Barbera vineyards with excellent exposure to produce a superb, balanced wine. The choice vineyards are in the southern area of Asti province, especially the hills around Nizza Monferrato. Temperature controlled maceration and fermentation on the skins yields the dark, rich color that is typical of great Barberas. Today, Michele Chiarlo’s winemaking facilities are one of Piedmont’s most technologically advance. They follow Chiarlo’s quality principles, which includes soft presses, controlled temperature fermentation to conserve the grapes’ original fragrances and flavors, maceration with rotating sprayers, and temperature and humidity controlled cellars. Each wine type is given specific treatment to maximize its potential flavors.
